1688 vs Taobao vs Weidian: Which Marketplace Should You Use?
Almost every find in a shopping spreadsheet comes from one of three Chinese marketplaces: Taobao, Weidian or 1688. All three work through the Oopbuy agent, but they are built for different buyers. This guide explains the differences that matter when you order from outside China.

Taobao
Taobao is Alibaba's consumer marketplace and the default for personal shopping. Its strengths are choice and information: listings have size charts, many reviews include buyer photos, and seller levels (hearts, diamonds, blue crowns, gold crowns) show how many positive ratings a shop has collected.
Use it when you want one item, care about reviews, or are buying clothing, shoes, home goods or accessories for yourself.
Watch out for listings that are copies of other listings, sizes that run small, and "official-looking" photos taken from a brand's website.
Weidian
Weidian (微店) lets small sellers run a shop from their phone. Many independent clothing and sneaker sellers that spreadsheets link to sell on Weidian rather than Taobao.
Use it when a specific seller you trust only sells there.

1688
1688.com is Alibaba's domestic wholesale platform, where factories and wholesalers sell to businesses. Prices per piece can be lower than on Taobao, but many listings have a minimum order quantity, descriptions are written for traders, and returns are limited.
Oopbuy is explicit about the extra risk: its registration agreement says it provides only "limited random sampling inspection" for 1688 orders and restricted after-sales support, and offers a paid expert service for guaranteed procurement.
Use it when you need several of the same item (basics, socks, packaging, accessories) or want to source for a small shop.

Which one for which goal?
- One item for yourself: Taobao first; Weidian if the seller you want is only there.
- Budget basics in quantity: 1688, after testing one sample through Taobao or 1688.
- A specific independent label: wherever that seller has its shop, usually Weidian.
- Electronics: Taobao shops with many reviews. Oopbuy does not test function, so you are relying on the seller.
The same rules apply to all three

- Check the QC photos when it reaches the warehouse.
