Is Oopbuy legit? Fees, reviews and risks

Short answer

Yes, Oopbuy is a real shopping agent that buys, photographs and ships what you order. It is also young, its fee terms contradict each other, and its Trustpilot rating is suspended.

Oopbuy is run by a registered Hong Kong company and its help center documents storage, QC, insurance and returns in detail. But the oopbuy.com domain was only registered in June 2024, Trustpilot has suspended the rating after removing fake reviews, 17 % of the last 573 reviews are one star, and the recent complaints on Reddit and Trustpilot are about shipping costs, cancelled “risky” orders and lost parcels. Treat it like any agent: a small first order, PayPal or a card, a careful look at the QC photos, and insurance on anything you would mind losing.

  • Addresses in Oopbuy’s own documents: Unit 903A, 9/F, Cameron Commercial Centre, 458–468 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay (Terms of Service, Contact page); Suite 603, 6/F, Laws Commercial Plaza, 788 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon (registration agreement, Trustpilot profile).
  • Two addresses and two legal systems appear in Oopbuy’s own documents: the Terms of Service apply Hong Kong law and Hong Kong courts; the registration agreement applies the law of the People’s Republic of China with the court in Yuhang District, Hangzhou. Which one governs a dispute is not obvious from the outside.
  • The registration agreement also says Oopbuy will disclose transaction records, logistics data and your identity to mainland-China police or market regulators on request.
  • Oopbuy’s About page says it has offices in the United States, China “and other places” and serves 45 countries. We found no further detail to check this against.

The fee question

Fee page says

No fees apart from product cost, international shipping and a customs declaration fee of “generally ¥8.00” per parcel (Service & Fees page).

Registration agreement says

The User Registration Agreement reserves a platform service fee of 8 % of the goods payment and 8 % of the freight, added when you pay.

The two statements contradict each other. Read the order and parcel summary before you pay; the agreement is the document you accept at sign-up.

What Reddit says

r/oopbuy mixes haul and QC posts with complaints. The complaint threads of August–October 2026 are about money and parcels, not about Oopbuy vanishing with deposits: a parcel returned to China by DHL that Oopbuy’s tracking listed as “delivered”, large first orders paused or cancelled as “too risky”, and shipping that felt expensive after vacuum packing and box folding. r/OopbuyFan is mostly spreadsheet and haul posts. We report the tone here, not vote counts.

Known problems and how to avoid them

Fee terms that contradict each other

The Service & Fees page says there are no charges beyond product, shipping and an ¥8 declaration fee. The registration agreement you accept at sign-up reserves an 8 % platform fee on goods and on freight.

How to avoid it: Compare the total on the payment screen with the item price and the shipping quote before you confirm. If a line you did not expect appears, ask support before paying.

Shipping costs and extras that add up

The loudest complaints on Trustpilot and Reddit are about the final shipping bill: heavy parcels, vacuum packing, box folding, splitting and repacking. Some lines bill the greater of actual and volumetric weight, which is what makes bulky parcels expensive.

How to avoid it: Get a quote with real dimensions in the shipping estimator, compare two or three lines, and only add packing services you actually need.

Customs risk sits with you

Oopbuy’s customs page says returns, fines and taxes caused by customs are borne by the buyer, and it suggests splitting heavy or high-value parcels. Its terms say counterfeit or IP-infringing goods found in the warehouse may be destroyed without refund of goods or fees.

How to avoid it: Declare the real value, check the import charges for your country before you release the parcel, and do not order goods that infringe a trademark.

Lost or returned parcels and the claim window

Compensation follows the scale of each shipping line and must be requested within 7 days of delivery or 45 days of shipment. Parcels confiscated by customs are excluded. The October 2026 Reddit case shows how hard a claim gets when the line’s tracking and the carrier disagree.

How to avoid it: Insure valuable parcels, screenshot the tracking of both the line and the final carrier, and open a claim inside the window, not after it.

Fake reviews and a suspended Trustpilot rating

Trustpilot removed fake reviews for Oopbuy and suspended the rating. The 75 % five-star share still visible should be read with that in mind; the 17 % one-star share tells you more.

How to avoid it: Read the one-star reviews and r/oopbuy before your first order and judge Oopbuy on how it handles a problem.

Customs and the law

Buying from Chinese marketplaces through an agent is legal; importing is not free. In the EU the €150 duty-free allowance ended on 1 July 2026 and import VAT is due on every parcel. The $800 de minimis exemption is suspended for parcels from every country since 29 August 2025, and CBP made the suspension indefinite in interim final rules published on 24 June 2026. Every parcel from China is dutiable. Budget for it with the customs calculator, read shipping and customs to the EU, and declare the real value.

Goods that infringe a trademark are a separate risk: Oopbuy may destroy them in the warehouse, and customs can seize them. Neither is refunded. Our guide on avoiding counterfeits explains what to look for in a listing.

A safe first order in five steps

  1. 1

Start with one cheap item and follow it through: seller to warehouse, QC photos, shipping quote, delivery.

  2. 2

Pay with PayPal or a credit card rather than a bank transfer.

  3. 3

Look at the QC photos properly. Compare them with the listing and the size chart, and return or exchange before the parcel ships.

  4. 4

Quote the parcel with real dimensions in Oopbuy’s estimator and compare a few lines before you pay.

  5. 5

Declare the real value, check the import charges for your country with the customs calculator, and insure anything you would mind losing.

Step by step: your first Oopbuy haul.

Frequently asked questions

Is Oopbuy legit or a scam?

Oopbuy is a real shopping agent run by Openbuy Technology HK Limited, a Hong Kong company: it buys from Taobao, Weidian and 1688 on your instructions, checks and photographs the items in its warehouse and ships them abroad. It is not a scam in the sense of taking deposits and disappearing. The risks are the usual agent risks plus some specific ones: Trustpilot has suspended Oopbuy's rating after removing fake reviews (17 % of the 573 reviews in the last 12 months are one star, read 13 Oct 2026), its fee terms contradict each other, and recent complaints are about shipping costs, cancelled “risky” orders and lost parcels.

What fees does Oopbuy charge?

No fees apart from product cost, international shipping and a customs declaration fee of “generally ¥8.00” per parcel (Service & Fees page). The User Registration Agreement reserves a platform service fee of 8 % of the goods payment and 8 % of the freight, added when you pay. The two statements contradict each other. Read the order and parcel summary before you pay; the agreement is the document you accept at sign-up.

Is it safe to pay Oopbuy with PayPal or a card?

Pay only inside your Oopbuy account. PayPal and credit cards give you a chargeback route that a bank transfer does not. Never pay anyone who contacts you on Discord, Telegram or WhatsApp claiming to be Oopbuy support.

What protects me if an item is wrong or a parcel is lost?

The QC check and the claim window. Oopbuy checks quantity, colour, size and specification on arrival and photographs the item. Colour differences, size errors, function of electronics and authenticity are outside the check. The first return or exchange each calendar month is free of Oopbuy’s service fee; after that ¥5 plus shipping both ways. Returns after international shipping go back to the Chinese warehouse at your cost. For parcels: Compensation per the scale of each line, claim within 7 days of delivery or 45 days of shipment; customs seizures excluded.

Does Oopbuy sell replicas?

Oopbuy is not a store and does not sell anything itself; it buys the listing you send it. Its Terms of Service forbid buying goods that infringe trademarks or copyright and allow Oopbuy to destroy obvious counterfeits found in the warehouse without refunding the goods or fees. Customs in your country can also seize such goods; that risk is yours, not the agent’s.
